House Republican Whip Representative Steve Scalise (R-LA) appeared on Fox News' “Hannity” Thursday night to talk about how people in the Obama administration attacked Donald Trump when he was a candidate for president to help his opponent, Hillary Clinton, and sabotage his efforts to win the 2016 election.
The GOP lawmaker said he believes that “people ought to go to jail” for what they did, and he assures Americans that US Attorney John Durham’s report will exonerate 99 percent of FBI rank-in-file employees who are “good people” at an important agency.
Durham was appointed by Attorney General Bill Barr with the task of investigating the origins of the Russia hoax investigation and the surveillance of Donald Trump’s presidential campaign with a much wider scope than Inspector General (IG) Michael Horowitz had while putting together his report documenting FISA abuses.
The IG had limited powers in that he only had emails going back to a point that was not at the origin of the abuses of power done by the Obama administration, and he did not have the power to subpoena witnesses and put them under oath in a grand jury situation. Therefore, even though the IG's report was very damning to the Obama actors who participated in our nation's first attempted government coup, he wasn't able to capture the really criminal behaviors perpetrated by the high ranking officials who set out to stop Trump from being elected to the White House. It is being highly speculated that Durham's report will name names, and people will be in heap big doo-doo.
Scalise said he's seen classified information, that he wouldn't go into, leading him to agree with President Donald Trump’s assertion Thursday that some “very crooked people” and “dirty cops” were behind the impeachment effort, and that the attorney general should “go after those people and put them in jail.
“Sean, you know, the president was very candid today. You know, clearly he has been focused on doing his job. But, I think it was important today that he pointed out that there is some very crooked people, including some dirty cops, who are still out there. That’s why, you know, I agree with you on Wray – but, the one I'm most interested in is the Durham report. Because, Sean, people need to be held accountable. They abused their power to literally try to take down a candidate for president of the United States.
“People ought to go to jail. I have seen some classified information I can't go into – but, I can say this: Hopefully Durham names names. I think the attorney general is waiting to see what comes out of that. And then, hopefully, they go after those people and put them in jail.
“Number one, to vindicate everybody else, the 99% of good people at FBI, which is such an important agency to our national security. It’s been compromised by some bad apples. They need to be held accountable.”
