OPINION| If you own a gun, or are just a proponent of an individual's right to bare arms, I'm going to guess that you know how Virginia is now the tip of the spear for ‘progressive' gun grabbing.
Democrats recently turned once red Virginia, blue, and have since decided that they were going to make gun ‘control' (ie eventual confiscation) their mission.
This resulted in the passing of nearly a dozen bills which infringed on the God given rights of their citizens to keep and bare arms.
Not only Virginians, but patriotic gun owing Americans from all over the country, and from all different backgrounds, attended an enormous gun rights rally at the Virginia Capital building.
The media and Democrats (but I repeat myself) tried to label the rally as a ‘white nationalist' rally, insinuating that the event was being attended by evil, racist, ‘white people'. This is the just the latest in a long line of events held by conservatives and libertarians which the media has decided to brand as ‘racist'.
Unfortunately for them this was the:
‘Governor blackface', as Virginia's Northam is affectionately known on the interwebs, tried too pour gas on the fire by building a cage around the capital, reportedly with a a single entrance, where the State demanded protestors assemble after being disarmed.
The smarter rally goers decided to stay outside of the make shift prison, and potential kill box, that the state of Virginia had set up.
Many thought that the events at the VA capital were going to be the impetus for, what now feels like and inevitable kinetic confrontation between those of us who value individual rights and those who seek to weld the power of the government against their political foes.
Luckily a few moderate Democrats have now stepped in and put a halt on the passing of the most draconian of the gun grabber bills, the ‘assault weapons ban'.
‘Lawmakers have thus far passed nearly a dozen gun control bills, all of which were opposed by the state’s gun owners, but still are minor compared to the so-called “assault weapons ban (AWB)” that Governor Ralph Northam had pushed for as the most encompassing piece of legislation. Originally, Northam wanted to reclassify most handguns and shotguns at “assault weapons” to allow for what was falsely advertised as an AWB to truly be confiscation of all firearms. Unlike even the AWB under President Bill Clinton, no firearms of current owners would be grandfathered in.
While Northam did largely ignore the 20,000+ peaceful gun owners who rallied against his gun ban, the proposed AWB did end up getting watered down. Earlier in the month, in a 12-9 vote, the House Public Safety Committee voted to ban “assault weapons” which now included the popular AR-15 and AK-47. The bill also banned magazines that hold more than 12 rounds, and sound suppressors, effective July 1. But the bill didn’t survive the Senate.'
Local press is also covering the Developments.
WHSV, a local Richmond outlet, reports: Northam’s push to ban the sale of assault weapons has failed after members of his own party balked at the proposal.
Senators voted to shelve the bill for the year and ask the state crime commission to study the issue, an outcome that drew cheers from a committee room packed with gun advocates.
Four moderate Democrats joined Republicans in Monday’s committee vote, rejecting legislation that would have prohibited the sale of certain semiautomatic firearms, including popular AR-15 style rifles, and banned the possession of magazines that hold more than 12 rounds.
This is encouraging to see that there are still enough Democrats out there we have a realistic view of what the fall out would be if the government were to try and confiscate it's citizen's firearms.
I am not even talking about the revolt that would likely take place.
Let us assume, for argument's sake, that they were able to grab all the guns. Then what? The left is the one that keeps on telling us that Trump is ‘literally Hitler'.
If they really believed this, would they not want the people to be armed to resist the brownshirts he would soon be deploying?
Bongino.com adds ‘Virginia’s push for gun control saw immediate resistance, even when it was merely being discussed ahead of Democrats taking control of the state government. Within just a month-and-a-half of Northam publicly floating an AWB, 90% of the state’s counties (which contain 40% of the population) voted to become “Second Amendment Sanctuaries” and refuse to enforce all future gun control legislation.'
This does not mean that we are out of the woods yet. Expect the Dems to revisit this bill again once the heat has died down and they think they can pass it without a tremendous backlash.
